Three Rivers Mission Community

About us

The building is a large 13th Century church known as the ‘Cathedral of the South Hams’.  The gathering of Christians at St Peter’s is centered on public worship, mainly on Sundays. The styles vary between traditional and more modern with hymns/songs which are used with sensitivity to those styles. The types of services are being further developed to be made more appropriate to the needs of the people in the village. The church building is used for a  visiting Post Office on a Thursday morning at 10.30am.

The Christian festivals are celebrated in the church, including Easter, Pentecost, Harvest and Christmas. At other times Bible Studies, during Lent and Advent, bring people together, in homes, to study the Word of God.  It is expected that these events will be expanded in the future for mutual support and encouragement. The basis of the Christian faith will be further explored as we also seek to include those who do not normally attend church services. Indeed everyone is welcome to all of the activities of the church.

The building is not always comfortable, especially in winter, and thus we are seeking to raise finance to provide adequate heating for church services and other activities in the church. The bells are a welcome addition to call us to Sunday services and to weddings as well as funerals; they are requiring restoration and refurbishment and members are raising funds to pay for this. The Christian Fellowship in the village is part of the Three Rivers Mission Community and we look forward to stronger ties with the other parishes to encourage each other in developing our Christian Faith. Church members are actively involved in all aspects of village life, including the history group and gardening club, the school, various shows and special events in the village hall.
